I'm a True Blue Mate!

Happy Australia Day

"In 1606 the explorer Pedro Fernandez de Quiros, sailing under the Spanish flag, mistook one of the islands of the Pacific nation now known as Vanuatu (New Hebrides) for the Great South Land. Believing he had discovered the long searched-for southern continent, he held a mass and set off fireworks to commemorate his discovery. As far as we know he was the first to use the name "Terra Australis del Espiritu Santu" - the "Great South Land of the Holy Spirit" - for what we now know as the nation of Australia."

Today we will be listening and singing along with our National Anthem, Tie me Kangaroo down sport, home among the gum trees and one of my all time favourites - Aeroplane Jelly!

As a little girl I would run from anywhere in the house to come and sing along when the old TV commercial advertising aeroplane Jelly came on, I just adored the song,

C'mon aussie, have a sing a long (even if your not an aussie)

  1. Love the Aussie atmosphere and your dinner looks spectacular.
    Happy Australia Day, Sarah.
We might opt for a dip at the coast and fish and chips on the beach, I think!

  5. Am I an honorary Aussie since I watched the commercial?

I was thinking it was jelly, like you put on a sandwich, but then I saw it said crystals, so I am wondering if that is like Jello? Did you like the product, or just the song?

    Happy Day!

  6. Hi Sarah,
Happy Australia Day to you, too!

For dinner tonight we had home grown:
    lamb loin chops
    beans
    sweetcorn
    eggs
    fried home-made bread

    and
potatoes. I had a pontiac potato, as they are not related to the deadly nightshade family, which the white potato belongs to. Tomatoes also belong to the same family.

    Love the new look blog!

    Have a great week,
    Blessings,
    Jillian ♥

  7. Hi Sarah,

Happy Australia Day :) We celebrated at the beach with a swim, a game of cricket and (of course) fish and chips! We are home now, a little sunkissed, tired and happy. The kids have been freshly bathed, and put into bed to read. Jamie and I are about to sit down to a latte and will probably watch the box together - the tennis if it's on :)

Love the gorgeous colours here on your blog! xx
